Exciting News!

I know what you’re thinking: “She has already told us that she’s pregnant!”

This is a different kind of exciting news.

Our Summer/Fall adventures have kept me incredibly busy.  I apologize for the lack of writing lately. (But, I have big plans to fill you in, including lots of great, entertaining stories and adorable pictures!)

However, even though my blog has been quiet, Matthew’s story is getting the biggest press it has ever received.

A couple months ago, an editor from the “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” website asked me to write a post for their blog.  He said they receive over 7 million visitors each month, so I knew this was my chance to have Matthew’s story seen by a very large audience!  The article was published on Wednesday.  Here is the link:

Raising a Boy Who Wasn’t Supposed to Live

After I shared it on facebook, Diane Grover from the International Down Syndrome Coalition told me that this was a very big deal!  She said it was only a few years ago that she wrote to the editors of “What to Expect” to ask that the portion of the book that talked about aborting children with Down syndrome be removed.  She said they did change later editions of the book, but publishing Matthew’s story shows that they have come a long way.

Then, the IDSC shared the article on their facebook page, and within a day it received over 1600 “likes” and was shared more than 120 times from their page alone.  I am overwhelmed and humbled by the response to his story.  I wish the “What to Expect” editors could see all of the facebook comments!

One of Matthew’s prayer warriors, Benedict, prayed that Matthew would live “so that others could see the Glory of God through him.”

As Matthew’s story is read by thousands of new eyes this week, all I can say is “To God be the Glory!”

  1. wow how wonderful, this is what many people need to read about. eliminate the negative and lets tell others about the many many positives

  2. Wow. Just wow. I would love to connect with you. We received similar news when I was pregnant, 5 minutes if he made it to term. Planned a home birth to provide compassionate care, etc. Here we are, 9 months later, with an amazing baby boy. Hugs to your entire family.

  3. Hello! I am a sister in the Lord from Michigan that just got to be blessed by your recounting of Matthew’s blessing into your family as we read on AOL! My husband and I just cried together, and praised God together for His work in little Matthew’s life as an infant, and praised Him for His work through all of the members of your family in the current! Wow. God never ceases to amaze me! May Christ in you continue to shine forth throughout the world as folks everywhere are exposed to His love through your writings of your family! Congrats on the next little life that is growing within you! God has blessed you all richly! To whom is given, much is expected so be sure to keep your armor of God on daily (Eph. 6) and keep in daily communion with Him. The plans He has for you, Matthew, and your whole crew may be bigger than you could ever hope or imagine according to His work within you! (Eph. 3:20-21)
Again, thank you for sharing a piece of your story, and thanks for putting the Glory where it belongs, with the Father! Yes, to Him be the Glory!!!!

  4. Wonderful inspiring article about Matthew. But I’m confused about the statement “ask that the portion of the book that talked about aborting children with Down syndrome be removed.” Many still are aborted. Was the book recommending that they be aborted? That would be awful.
