1:00 PM – Done with Surgery

Matthew is all done with surgery, and getting settled in the PICU.  Dr. Siwek said, “things weren’t quite what we expected. . . ” but that’s our Matthew!

The repair went very well.  It was very good that they did not have to repair the VSD – that spares his conduction system and he will not need a pacemaker.  The ASD was a good, straightforward repair, but the valve leaflets were more complex than expected, but they were able to repair them.  Dr. Siwek said things went very well.

We are waiting to be able to see Matthew in the PICU.  We don’t know how long he will be on the ventilator, but so far everything has gone even better than anyone could have expected.

Micah is doing very well, too.  His grandparents took him to a pet store today, and he loved seeing all the animals!  He is a real trooper, too, and has come to know that when Matthew is in the hospital, he gets special treats from Bubbi and Papa.

We are so thankful for all of your prayers.  We are overwhelmed by all the love and support we’ve gotten from all of you, and shocked by the number of hits this website has gotten today!  Thank you all for loving our little Matthew.  We will keep you posted as we learn more.
